how did you decide to become a chinese medicine practitioner?
I’ve always loved helping people and that concept really solidified after my dad went through cancer treatment. The nurses and his care team really made a difference through a difficult situation, and I wanted to pay it forward and help others going through health challenges. I trained as a Nursing Assistant, and saw firsthand how much people suffered from preventable diseases and afflictions. I knew there had to be another way.
My own health journey included acupuncture and herbal medicine for pain and menstrual issues related to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). I changed my major from nursing to Traditional Chinese Medicine and never looked back!
What area do you love treating ? How do you enjoy integrating East Asian medicine for these types of patients?
I’ve really enjoyed treating pain, fertility, and dermatology with my patients. For my pain patients, it is so rewarding to help them manage their disruptive, sometimes debilitating pain. Watching them recover their zest for life is something that will never get old!
With my fertility patients, the goal is to help them start a family. I have Traditional Chinese Medicine to thank for the birth of my three beautiful daughters. Dealing with PCOS, I thought a family was just a dream. Thanks to my teachers, acupuncturists, and herbalists, that dream became a reality! I am so honored to help others achieve their dreams of growing their families.
Dermatology in Chinese Medicine is another passion of mine. It is so much fun to play with lotions, serums, and masks, and combine it with the wisdom of Chinese medicine to help treat skin issues and promote healthy aging.
What inspires your work?
My parents were my original inspiration to become a healthcare professional. My mom was a long time OR nurse, and my dad was a medic in the Air Force. Healing is in my blood! Now, my daughters inspire me to be an example to them. Traditional Chinese Medicine is all about being in balance internally and externally with your environment. I’m always striving towards that goal.
