How did you decide to become a chinese medicine practitioner?
My experience with acupuncture began in my early thirties when I worked for an acupuncturist who focused on fertility support. While working for her, I saw firsthand how amazing acupuncture and herbal medicine could be. During this time, I also began receiving acupuncture myself for anxiety relief. One of the things that I found extremely helpful was the holistic approach to healing that Chinese medicine offered. I was so relieved to find that someone was truly listening to me and that the mind, body and spirit were equally considered. I had known for some time that I wanted to switch careers to something that was rooted in nature, holistic healing and caregiving. Soon after this experience, I moved to the Bay Area and began my journey to becoming a Chinese medicine practitioner.
What is something that you love helping your patients with?
I feel passionate about working with patients during pregnancy and postpartum. As a mother myself, I clearly remember the early days of both of these stages of motherhood. Motherhood is full of joy, but there can be confusing and challenging moments that come up too. I feel that expecting and new mothers deserve to have all of the support in the world and I love to be a part of that “village” for my patients. I also love to help patients who are feeling anxious, stressed or overwhelmed-the sense of relief and feelings of calm that they find after receiving acupuncture is always amazing to see.
What inspires your work?
One of my main goals in my work is to offer a place where people feel heard-I believe that holding space for each person’s individual story and journey is such an important part of the healing process and I’m happy to be able to give that to my patients. I’m also honored to play a small role in carrying on an ancient medicine/philosophy that not only understands but truly values the connection of mind, body and spirit and our connection to nature itself. Last but not least, I’m inspired by the amazing women in my life, my mother, my sister, my female friends and most importantly my daughter who has taught me how to slow down, enjoy the moment and be a slightly more free spirit. I’m inspired by her to make the world a better place in any small way that I can.
What is your self-care ritual?
Being in nature is honestly the most healing thing for me. I strive to get as close to the trees or ocean as often as possible. I also make a point to prioritize keeping my body strong with pilates, strength training and a balanced (but never restrictive) diet.
